Why you should book a Sailing Charter Holiday in Croatia this Summer?

You have heard us say it all before. This doesn’t make it less true.  Sailing in Croatia is an unforgettable experience.

Cruising the island-studded Adriatic sea, somewhere among its 1000 or so islands, gliding through blue-green waters under bright sunshine. Sailing in a country gives a different perspective of its land and people and Croatia is simply made for sailing. Faraway magic lands can be reached with the quietest coves; modern marinas attached to humming, cosmopolitan cities provide a safe harbor to unwind and take your mind off the boat for a night or two. Mostly friendly winds and easy line-of-sight navigation offer all that is needed for a chilled-out sailing experience.

If you prefer something more challenging, such sailing areas can be found off the smaller, barren 100-island archipelago of Kornati, in Kvarner Bay, the Velebit Channel, and around the island of Vis.

                                                                                                Sailing Charter

The high season in Croatia is busy. There are crowded, umbrella-lined beaches and cities with millions of tourists and locals on holiday; all moving around at the same time. If you’re looking for something quieter, wilder, and more intimate, then what better way to escape the crowds than sailing off on a yacht to places only accessible by boat? Even though sailing is a popular pastime in Croatia, you can always find a cove tucked away somewhere where you will feel as if you are the only soul on the planet. You might meet a few day-trippers from the mainland, but you will have the sunset pretty much to yourself once they have gone.

Ask anyone who has been to Croatia and they will enthuse about the clarity of the water. Reputedly the clearest water in the Mediterranean, visibility can reach up to 15m, – great for a visual when dropping your anchor! Every cliché you could ever think of applies to the waters of the Adriatic Coast, with good reason; Croatia regularly tops the best beach and cleanest waters lists. The temperature of the sea in the summer reaches a pleasing 29C, there are not many waves, and there are no sharks or particularly dangerous species to worry about. Since you will be, literally, on it you can leap off your boat anytime into the practically transparent water.

Croatia has one of the oldest European cultures, heavily influenced by both the Greeks and the Romans. As a result, there is a plethora of ancient architecture everywhere. Palaces, arenas, and old city walls are found in many ports. Captivating medieval cities, noblemen’s fortresses, and ancient city walls add a charm to the coast and islands that is spellbinding. You can visit some of the most incredible cathedrals in Europe. From Romanesque and Gothic to Renaissance and Rococo, the coastal cities are full of such treasures. Worth exploring on a day in port.

UNESCO’s World Heritage List includes seven sites in Croatia showcasing its rich cultural legacy.

The nautical infrastructure in Croatia is excellent. With around 56 well-organized marinas which together offer 16000 sea berths and 8500 berths on land.  Apart from marinas, there are also many private sailing clubs and ports for members only. The marinas in Croatia are located mostly in Dalmatian coastal towns, conveniently close to airports and other amenities. Charter boats are available in virtually all of these marinas and most marinas have a dry dock, should you need a few repairs or have an emergency while on a sailing holiday. Reputable charter companies and friendly, helpful port authorities complete the picture.

See mountainous ridges giving way to vineyards that line the rocky coastline. Gaze out onto the islands dotted as far as the horizon, some lush and green others barren with a starker beauty. Marvel at the colors of summer, the perfection of nature, and the medieval stone walls and buildings. Watch the sunset (or rise) over the water. Taste Croatia! Differing by region, it is a Mediterranean cuisine with splashes of Italian, Greek, and Slavic. Savor the spices and the freshest ingredients washed down with world-class wine that will entertain your palette. Relish delectable traditional meals wherever you are. Feel the wind on your face as the sails fill out or the coolness of the water on your skin as you dive off the boat. Touch the hot pebbles on the beach and sink your bare feet into white sand. Bask in the warm sunshine and let it warm you right through. Smell the lavender fields in Hvar, the grilling meat and fish on the coals, the fresh sea air as you sail out into the open. Wake up to the aroma of coffee being brewed in the galley before you set off for an early morning cruise. Listen to the waves lapping on the boat, the halyards banging on the mast, and the harmonies of the Klapa groups, singing in the squares.

And let your intuition guide you to memorable moments…..

Vis – Unavoidable Stop Point During Sailing Croatia

In the middle of the high seas of the Adriatic, there is the island of Vis. It is listed among 10 undiscovered islands of dreams and marked as a favorite European destination. The town of Vis, despite a turbulent history, has remained urbanistically unchanged, architecturally authentic, and environmentally clean.

You’re in the middle of the high seas of the Adriatic…

As the anthem of the island, Vis says, in the middle of the high seas of the Adriatic there is the island of Vis and in the Bay of St. George is the town of Vis. Despite a turbulent history, the city has remained urbanistically unchanged, architecturally authentic, and environmentally clean. It is not surprising that in the last six years tourism is booming on this beauty: the island is listed among 10 undiscovered islands of dreams and marked as a favorite European destination.

The town of Vis has become an unavoidable point of cruising in Croatia. Bay St. George is well indented, and port is deeply cut in and protected by hills from southerly winds and partly from tramontana wind as well. On the north side, it’s closed by islet Host.

Vis – Unavoidable Stop Point During Sailing Croatia

There is no marina, but it offers the entire waterfront to the boaters. Most of the berths on the waterfront area in the Port and from the beginning of the eastern waterfront there are sixty moorings. On the shore are banks of filing cabinets with electricity and water. Moorings are far from the shore, so you can tie the boat which length is up to sixteen meters. The sea depth along this part of the waterfront is between 2.5 and 3.8 meters.

You can also use the part of the shore called Kut. It is equipped with moorings, water, and electricity and has a capacity of thirty yachts. The depth along this side of the waterfront is 1.5 to 2.8 meters. This part of the Vis harbor is also open to the winds from the north and northeast but especially to those from the northwest and west, from where you need to beware of summer storms.

Berths and anchorages on the waterfront and in Kut are charged by the length of the vessel.

Once you sail into Vis, do not miss to meet with many beauties that this city offers. Since it was founded by the Greeks in the 4th century BC it is rich in archaeological monuments, especially in the museum of the island of Vis, which has an ethnographic collection too.

Near the coast, there are archaeological sites Martvilo (only Hellenistic cemetery in Croatia) and Roman baths. The remains of the ancient theatre and other stone monuments of the ancient Issa, you can see in the monastery of Conventual also located on the promenade.

The narrow winding streets of the first urban center in Croatia hide many taverns where you can taste traditional Dalmatian cuisine, as well as restaurants serving seafood in the Italian style. The heart of the place is full of many cafes, so your summer evenings will be filled with partying and vitality.

Vis – Unavoidable Stop Point During Sailing Croatia

If you want to explore the whole island of Vis you’ll enjoy medieval villages, ancient ruins, olive groves, and the best vineyards in Dalmatia as well as in the miles of sandy beaches, pebble strand, and bays.

This is only a small part of what the island of Vis offers. Come and see it for yourself!

National parks in Croatia with a boat

Even though small in size, Croatia has 8 national parks and 11 nature parks, which is not a small number for a country. The difference between the two is that it is strictly prohibited to use natural wealth for any kind economical purposes in national parks.

Here we will list all the national parks in Croatia that you can visit chartering a yacht with us: Mljet, Kornati, Krka, Brijuni. The other four are Plitvička jezera, Risnjak, Sjeverni Velebit and Paklenica, accessible by car with our concierge service.

If you have rented a sailing boat or a catamaran from Dubrovnik to Trogir and Split or in other one-way tour, then island Mljet is a place where you would want to spend a night and maybe even stay for a day or two. Located 24 NM from Dubrovnik, its north-west part was declared a national park in 1960. Berthing in Polače is recommendable and safe if you are eager to visit the park. Your second option is Pomena which is actually closer to the park but limited by only 20 berths or so, so arriving earlier at around 14:00 in peak season is advised. Maybe the most beautiful parts of the park are the two salt lakes called Big and Little lake. Kids enjoy being „dragged“ by the slow current under the little bridge or rowing to the little island of St. Marija. This is the place for quality time with your kids, since it is one of the most beautiful parts of the Adriatic, according to experienced seamen. One more thing to mention is the fresh and quality fish which you have to try.

This archipelago was named after the Latin word for the crown – Corona. Consisted of many small bare islands, Kornati are poorly inhabited (the biggest village is Vrulje), but this makes them a perfect getaway from everyday rushed life. They were declared a national park in 1980, with yachtsmen making for more than 80% of the visitors. The easiest access is from Marina Kremik near Primošten, Vodice, Murter (7NM), Šibenik (15 NM), Biograd, Zadar.

During hot long summer days, it is best to escape to Krka national park. It is recommended to tie your boat in ACI marina Skradin which is the closest to two main attractions of river Krka: Skradinski Buk and Roški waterfall. Organized boat rides are the best choice to visit them.

Don’t miss taking a dip in the refreshing river (only in marked places), and visit the ruins of the first Croatian hydroelectric plant at Skradinski Buk.  Hydroelectric plant  „Krka“ (later known as „ Jaruga I „) was built and became operational on Aug 28th 1895., only two days a similar plant started working at Niagara. It is not mentioned enough that Šibenik was the first one to have electric public lighting in the world. Nikola Tesla was to thank for both hydroelectric plant projects.

The Island of Brijuni is situated in the north-west part of the Adriatic, and it is a bit more than 7 square kilometers in size. The favorable and mild climate made  Austrian industrialist Paul Kuplewieser build a fashionable resort and treatment center. In 1954, Brijuni becomes a favorite summer resort of the Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito who cherished the island as an elite destination as many world dignitaries, actors, and celebrities from that period were his visitors.
